Gokhan Serhat
Research Scientist
I am an assistant professor at the Mechanical Engineering Department of KU Leuven and a part-time research scientist at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems. My research interests lie in the intersection of computational mechanics, mechanical vibrations, and numerical optimization. I develop simulation tools that enable understanding the mechanisms behind scientific phenomena involving complex physical interactions, circumventing a portion of costly experimental procedures, and designing optimal structures and systems.

I previously earned my Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Koc University (Istanbul, Turkey) in 2018, under the supervision of Dr. Ipek Basdogan. Prior to my doctoral studies, I received my M.Sc. degree in Computational Mechanics from the Technical University of Munich in 2013. I was supervised by Prof. Dr. Fabian Duddeck during my Master's thesis study, which I conducted in BMW Group. Earlier, I obtained a B.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Middle East Technical University (Ankara, Turkey) in 2011.
