Central Mechanical Workshop
The Central Mechanical Workshop is a joint service group of the Stuttgart Max Planck Institutes. With our modern machinery we manufacture component parts and assemblies based on drawings, models, sketches and samples. Our main customers are the scientific departments and the scientific service groups. Our manufactured parts range in size from small sample containers to big cryostats and welded assemblage.
Smooth processing of orders is guaranteed by our qualified colleagues from manufacturing, the locksmith’s and the joiner’s shops and the material and tools distribution.
To young people we offer high-level training in industrial mechanics.
The precision mechanics workshop (Guido Nafz) is also a joint service group of both Max Planck Institutes.

Distribution of materials and tools
This is the place where all materials used in the Central Mechanical Workshop are stored, distributed and cut to size for the individual jobs. You can also borrow tools and measuring equipment here and dispose of scrap metal; before doing so, please contact the office of the Central Mechanical Workshop or the colleagues from the materials and tools distribution.
