Aniket Pal receives Humboldt Postdoctoral Research Fellowship

The scientist working in the Physical Intelligence Department at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in Stuttgart will be supported by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation for two years to continue his soft robotic research in Germany.
Aniket completed his PhD from the School of Industrial Engineering, Purdue University in August 2020, where he worked on wearable biosensors and soft robotics. Specifically, his work has been focused along two directions: i) developing new sensing mechanisms to measure biological signals and analytes and implementing them on a soft, untethered, wearable platform; and ii) encoding intelligence in the body of soft machines through unconventional design, with applications in soft robotics and mechanical metamaterials. He joined the Physical Intelligence (PI) Department at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems (MPI-IS) in October 2020 and is supported by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation since June 2021.
"I am excited to push forward the field of mechanical metamaterials and soft robotics during my postdoctoral stint at the MPI-IS. I would like to learn the methods and techniques developed in the PI department and combine it with my experience in encoding intelligence through design to explore new directions and demonstrate new capabilities in soft machines. I believe that my overall research theme of intelligence by design is a very good fit with the research theme of the department: physical intelligence."
