We are proud of the progress our institute has made in these domains over the last three years, and we are excited to continue improving through thoughtful attention, systematic effort, and open and respectful communication with all stakeholders.
Every three years, the institute has to create a Gender Equality Plan (GEP), which is then judged by the Commission of Quality Management of Max Planck Gender Equality Plans.
Most recently, our second Gender Equality Plan covering 2024-2026, which was submitted on January 15, 2024 won a Gold Medal. Previously, our first Gender Equality Plan covering 2021-2023 also won a Gold Medal.
Our institute’s Equal Opportunity Officers (EOO) have been involved in implementing the measures of the GEP along with the GEP Committee.
The main responsibilities of EOO are:
Providing confidential support in cases of harassment and discrimination
Overseeing and managing the implementation of the Gender Equality Plan (e.g. internal surveys, nominations of people from underrepresented groups, community-building events)
Participating in the hiring process for positions like W2 research group leaders
Raising awareness about family planning and addressing any issues within MPI-IS
EOO also offer monthly office hours both in Stuttgart and Tübingen. EOO office hours are completely confidential and open-ended, and the time is dedicated to hearing your thoughts on how we can improve our work and ideas for making MPI-IS more inclusive.
