In this talk, Majid Taghavi will briefly discuss the demand for high-performance electromechanical transducers, the current challenges, and approaches he has been pursuing to tackle them. He will discuss multiple electromechanical concepts and devices that he has delivered for low-power energy harvesting, self-powered sensors, and artificial muscle technologies. Majid Taghavi will look into piezoelectric, triboelectric, electrostatic, dielectrophoretic, and androphilic phenomena, and will show his observations and innovations in coupling physical phenomena and developing smart materials and intelligent devices.

Speaker Biography

Majid Taghavi (University of Bristol)

Senior Research Associate

Having a background in Electronics and Micro electro-mechanical systems from K.N.Toosi and Tabriz universities (Iran), Majid Taghavi has been working on Electromechanical transducers since 2010 when he joined the Micro-BioRobotics Center of IIT at Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna (Italy). He received PhD in BioRobotics in 2014 with honor after delivering multiple smart materials, intelligent structures and systems for sensing and energy harvesting. He continued his post-doctoral research in IIT, focusing on Soft Tactile Sensors. Majid Taghavi joined the University of Bristol (UK) in 2016, exploring novel actuation technologies with an emphasis on safe human-machine interaction, and developed multiple electroactive artificial muscle technologies. He is now a senior research associate in UoB and pursues his interests in transducers, soft robotics, and smart materials/structures for healthcare applications.
