Breakthroughs come from breaking down barriers.
Roadtrip Nation is an ongoing film project that aims to help young people find their path in life. The newest series focuses on inspiring girls to pursue fulfilling careers in science, technology, engineering and math. Three young women traveled across the US in a big green RV on a month-long road trip from Boston to San Francisco. On their way, they interviewed 20 women working in the field, and one of them was Katherine J. Kuchenbecker, at the time Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania and today Director of the Haptic Intelligence Department at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems. The young women asked important questions: What got Katherine involved in science? What inspired her to become a mechanical engineer and pursue a research career? And did she have to overcome any obstacles along the way?
