My research is at the intersection between basic material science and soft robotics. I focus on understanding the material-based affecters of high-performance dielectrics for the fabrication of artificial muscles. Another aspect of the research is dedicated to developing biodegradable materials, that also fulfil electrical and mechanical demands of artificial muscles by being soft, flexible, and strong. A third part of my work is dedicated to the design and fabrication of soft robotics applications, such as haptic feedback devices and assistive devices for tremor suppression. This interdisciplinary research aims for bridging the gap between basic material science and complete design, fabrication, and mechanical engineering.
Before joining the Robotic Materials department I studied smart biocompatible polymers for biomedical applications, and developed a drug delivery system based on NIR-light responsive materials and a biomedical adhesive.
