As soon as it was announced, the internship program of the newly founded Robotics Institute Germany attracted more than 450 applications for internship positions at the Stuttgart site of the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems.
Stuttgart – The Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems (MPI-IS), world-renowned for its fundamental research in robotics and artificial intelligence, will host nine Bachelor's and Master's student interns, all of whom will contribute to the cutting-edge research at the institute's Stuttgart site. The internship program, known as RIGI, is a cornerstone of the newly established Robotics Institute Germany (RIG) – a collaborative network of leading robotics research center across Germany. RIGI provides young talents with a springboard to a career in robotics research. The student interns for the summer of 2025 will be selected from a total of 466 applicants from 48 different countries. The evaluation process will run until the end of February, with interviews taking place in early March.
Successful applicants can look forward to working closely with MPI-IS directors, research group leaders, postdocs and graduate students on research projects in diverse fields such as biomechanics, haptics and human-computer interaction, materials science, machine learning, (soft) robotics and many more.
Increasing international visibility, accelerating progress in robotics
RIG is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) to increase international visibility, attract talent and accelerate progress in robotics. Meanwhile, RIGI aims to support undergraduate and graduate students who may be hindered in their research careers by personal, financial, societal or geographical barriers. The program aims to promote diversity, equity and inclusion. The MPI-IS particularly welcomes applicants from communities underrepresented in robotics research in order to foster a more diverse scientific landscape. All aspects of the program will be conducted in English. Paid internships are for a maximum of 90 days.
MPI-IS is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to fostering a multicultural community of students, faculty and staff to promote diversity and inclusion.
