Stuttgart/Tübingen – A nice piece of reading while many work from home and have a bit more free time at hand: who we are and what we do at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems (MPI-IS) is summarized in our new highlights report, which is now available online. The report features the leading scientists of our institute and many of our exciting ground research projects in the field of intelligent systems.
In the future, intelligent systems will substantially change the way we live, work, and communicate. Such systems will become increasingly important in all spheres of life – as virtual systems on the Internet, or as cyber-physical systems in the real world. Artificial intelligence (AI) will be used for autonomous driving, as well as to diagnose and fight diseases. This is just the beginning. Researchers at MPI-IS are at the forefront of this development, actively shaping the future of AI and robotics.
We want to share with you the highlights that have made 2019 a very special year for MPI-IS. Looking back, we have undergone many groundbreaking projects, but most importantly we are yet again overwhelmed by the exceptional people, who all have contributed to making MPI-IS a world leading institute in the field of machine learning, computer vision and robotics.

Looking ahead, we do not stand still. We are actively embracing the new challenges the COVID-19 pandemic has set out for us. We too want to do our share in fighting the disease and innovations in AI and robotics could play an essential role in addressing the pandemic. We will continue to look for answers to many new questions no-one ever thought would arise.
