Robots as household helpers, learning robots, mini robots for medical research, and big data: this year's summer colloquium focused on current topics in artificial intelligence.
Stuttgart scientists from the University of Stuttgart, the Fraunhofer Institute IPA, the Cyber Valley Initiative, and the MPI for Intelligent Systems presented current research results and future directions in interesting and lively lectures.
In addition, two important honours were presented. First, the Institute celebrated its Emeritus Director Prof. Manfred Rühle on the occasion of his eightieth birthday. The milestones of his important scientific career were highlighted by his alumnus Prof. Mayer on behalf of DGM and by an interesting lecture by his first doctoral student Prof. Dawn Bonnell, now at the University of Pennsylvania.
Second, the Günter Petzow Prize was awarded to Dr. Wenqi Hu, whose crisp lecture on his versatile milli robot rounded off the colloquium. Ending perfectly on time, the colloquium culminated in a casual barbecue evening in the canteen garden, taking place in the most beautiful sunshine.
