Our research group will be funded as an independent entity within the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems from December 2016. An official set-up phase starts in September 2016. This also brings an end to our beloved status as an Emmy Noether group.
We are very happy to announce that, following a selection process by an external committee, a vote by the Senate, and a decision by the President, the Max Planck Society has decided to establish our research group on Probabilistic Numerics as an independent Max Planck Research Group at the MPI for Intelligent Systems in Tübingen.
This decision, and the generous funding arrangements that come with it, mean that our group will (once again) grow significantly in the coming months. This will allow us to expand our work to establish the notion of uncertainty in deterministic computation with the academic community.
One bittersweet aspect of this development is that is also means we have now outgrown the formal bounds of the Emmy Noether programme, and the DFG will therefore end our support within this wonderful funding scheme. We are very grateful for the extensive financial and spiritual support we have received from the German research union over the past years, which helped us establish an independent platform at an early stage.
We are looking forward to a new phase of high-powered research, fueled by the superb infrastructure of the MPI IS. The next milestone will be the move into the building in early 2017.
